Ready to Rocket – Raygun Style

Ready to Rock - San Francisco - 2012

For about a year, back in 2012, the Raygun Rocket stood along San Francisco’s Embarcadero just south of the Ferry Building. It’s gone now.

This is an image shot with my tiny Canon PowerShot S100 of one of Muni’s F-line streetcars – in a beautiful orange and yellow paint scheme – easing on by the rocket with the Bay Bridge in the distance.

A friend commented on Facebook: “Looks like you shot this in 1950!” Indeed!…

This image is of one of the streetcars in the car barn at the Western Railway Museum just outside of Fairfield, California.

I shot this image using my iPhone 5 – and post-processed it totally on the iPhone using the Dramatic B&W application. When I took the shot, I got lucky to be able to light up the headlamp of the camp – thanks to a reflection of natural light coming in from the far right. That light in the headlamp makes this shot – without it, it’d just be another streetcar image!

That Milan Streetcar on the F-line in San Francisco

F Line - San Francisco - 2013

As I was walking along the Embarcadero this morning, that beautiful Milan F-line street car passed me by. Truth be told, I almost walked right out in front of it – but fortunately I looked left and avoided what would have been an awkward collision!

AS it zipped by me, I pulled up my Nikon D600 and shot this image – looking into the morning light. I post-processed this image using a combination of Topaz Simply 4 – to remove details – along with a trip into Lab color in Photoshop.

Doug Kaye and I spent another couple hours shooting around Justin Herman Plaza and Embarcadero Center before heading to lunch at one of our favorites: Slanted Door in the Ferry Building.
