I headed for the coast this morning – taking along three cameras: a Fujifilm X100S, a Nikon D600 DSLR, and my trusty iPhone 5s.
The iPhone 5s takes some amazing pictures – here are two quick examples. Up above the beautiful lighthouse at Pigeon Point. And down below the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse in Santa Cruz. Both shot with my iPhone 5s and edited in the iPhone using Snapseed.

I seem to love orange – and oranges.
When I was much younger, I consumed orange juice by the quart – undoubtedly bad for my blood sugar! I also used to love winter in California when the navel oranges came into season and we could buy big bags of them at the local supermarket. They peeled so easily and tasted so great – that sweet and tart combination with that wonderful aroma of orange zest. At my age, I now need to avoid them – unfortunately. Life gives – and life takes away!
Tonight we had a quick dinner at one of our favorite spots – and they had these oranges in a bowl near where we sat at the bar. Partially peeled for orange zest, they look a bit like zebras!

Sometimes, wisdom comes in to my life in unexpected ways.

Begin within – indeed!
Earlier this year we began getting a weekly delivery of fresh farm produce from a local grower in the hills west of Woodside. It’s been a delight to have this fresh produce each week!
This weekend, we took a short drive over to see the farm and to meet the couple that cultivates this wonderful farm.
I took my Fujifilm X100S along – along with my new iPhone 5s – and snapped a few pictures while we were there. The image above is from the X100S – it’s a shot of the pond that is spring fed and used for the irrigation of the five acre farm. A beautiful spot on a Saturday morning!
The two shots below are different interpretations of an image I shot with my iPhone 5s just to the right of the earlier image. The images were edited using iPhone applications in the phone and then uploaded to Flickr. I like both of them – but the second one – with the more antique look and toning – is my preference.
All of these images are very peaceful to me. They delight in a most subtle but satisfying way. Hope you like them too!
