An article titled “A Hard-Working Suit” in today’s Wall St. Journal made me smile – bringing back memories of just how much of my work life I spent in a suit.
Thinking back on it, all of my years at IBM and Visa were spent in suits – it was just part of the culture. Only later, was I introduced to the notion of “business casual” – a delightfully appropriate down dressing! They say a suit is “always appropriate” – but I’ve enjoyed my years of inappropriateness as a post-suit era dresser!
Of course, “suits” also have another meaning out here in Silicon Valley – and elsewhere – being a somewhat derogatory term for those clueless business guys who simply don’t understand. You know who.

Funny to see this post from you. As I recall, you were wearing one of those erstwhile suits when I met you 🙂 About a year ago, I posted something on suits as well, http://direwolff.posterous.com/suits-not-dead-just-stranded-on-the-island-of.
