Multex Investor: E-tailers may get the last laugh

Slow but steady wins the race…

It may not be the revolution that some had predicted, but e-tailing continues to take a bigger and bigger bite out of total retail sales. And as shoppers continue their slow migration to the Web, profit margins at traditional retailers may come under pressure over the next few years.

How much of your spending is now done online? Sure, I buy books, music and software from Amazon — but I also go out of my way to patronize our local bookstore, Kepler’s, whenever time (and inventory) permits. I just don’t feel the same way about local music stores (they’re all big chains) or software (Fry’s has never built a relationship with me the way that Amazon has!).
