Notes from Amazon Web Services Workshop

This morning I’m attending the Amazon Web Services Workshop at Software Development 2004 in Santa Clara. Some notes from the workshop will follow.

See this page for the URL’s used during the workshop.

Jeff Barr did a great job presenting the bulk to the morning’s material. V4 of AWS — coming sometime “soon” was reviewed by Laura (didn’t get her last name). Lots of changes/enhancements planned for V4 — get the feeling that they’re re-doing a lot of stuff to get it right, more responsive to developer needs, etc.

Ben Trott from SixApart demo’ed the cool AWS interface that TypePad uses to easily build book reading lists. My booklist in the right sidebar is built using that feature of TypePad.

Greg from Alexa reviewed what’s new there — including adding web sites to Amazon so that you can provide reviews, view rankings, etc. Got the feeling that there could be some more interesting social networking angles ahead as the two platforms do try some interesting things.
