I picked up Jim Harrison’s Off to the Side memoir at the library a few days ago and finished it last night. In spite of the negative reviews on Amazon, I enjoyed the book. Harrison has such a wonderful way with words as a writer.
I remember reading his Legends of the Fall many years ago — being blown away by the depth and beauty of his writing style. I never did see the movie — but that novella was some spectacular reading!
Here are two of my favorite Jim Harrison quotes as gleaned from reading his memoir over the last few days:
We Americans are trained to think big, talk big, act big, love big, admire bigness but then the essential mystery is in the small.
What you get in life is what you organize for yourself every day.
