Andre Durand of PingID has posted a new white paper on federated identity.
Federated Identity Management (FIM), or the management of identities between corporate boundaries, has recently emerged in response to the desires to simplify the way in which individuals (consumers) are able to move between companies. Applications such as shared sign-on (SSO) and the emergence of web services architectures are driving the need for companies to understand and manage inter-company dependencies. Unlike EIM, where technology serves to resolve a good portion of the corporate IT dilemma, FIM raises issues which are far more complex and extensive, and require new approaches.
