I recently finished Wallace Stegner’s Crossing to Safety. Stegner writes about family life, following the course of two families over many years as seen through the eyes of one of the husbands. This book made a wonderful travel companion for me — a book to be read and savored slowly. For me, Stegner was the perfect antidote to the stresses of travel. Highly recommended. This is a book to give away to your best friends — I’ve sent several already — and then to re-read again and again. Also, here’s a great resource page on Wallace Stegner.
