Last month I promised to post my comments on the Liberty Alliance Version 1.0 Architecture Overview. In short, I think the Alliance has done a fine job of designing a system for federated identity, but I have serious reservations regarding the concept as a whole.
I believe Liberty is unnecessary and a threat to consumer privacy, and that alternatives exist that can deliver a majority of Liberty’s benefits without the drawbacks.
Separately, the Liberty Alliance announced this morning that:
Eric Dean, CIO of United
Airlines, is stepping down as president of the Liberty Alliance Management
Board. Michael Barrett, vice president of the Liberty Alliance Management Board
and vice president of Internet strategy for American Express Corporation, will
chair the Management Board until a new president is elected.
