The Oregonian: Area’s economic future lacks battle plan

Front-page Sunday story in Portland’s Oregonian about the economic difficulties facing Portland.

The Portland region’s economy rests on shaky foundations:

Sliding K-12 schools. Urban universities weak on research, engineering and business. Few large company headquarters. An entrepreneurial environment short of cash and talent. Scarce industrial land. A struggling port.

And a looming threat: high-tech and heavy manufacturers, the engines of the economy, may move.
