Google’s latest beta service, Google Answers, sorta parallels the reference desk at your local public library.
We’ve got a great public library in Menlo Park — and they’ve just introduced access to an online resource called the Q&A Cafe. It’s an online Q&A service available from 2-9 PM 7 days per week (Pacific).
Wouldn’t it be great if Google could figure out how to marshall the resources of those great librarians at reference desks at libraries around the country? (Q&A Cafe even promotes Google as one of their favorite sources of answers!) What would be even better is if there was a way through doing so that some additional funding could flow to libraries and those librarians. Where’s Andrew Carnegie when we need him?
