Grace Chow

Steve Adelman points to the late Grace Chow’s amazing blog. Steve says:

A friend pointed me to a blog that I found to be very much worth reading.
It’ll only take 10 minutes or so to read the entire blog – it was the work
of a woman named Grace Chow who recently died of an extremely rare type of
tumor. She started the blog late in November and died ten days later.

Back to Work!

Today’s turning into a work day after all — for all (well, some!) of those things I just didn’t get done during the week in between Christmas and New Years.

Holidays come and holidays go, ever more quickly — or so it seems.

It looks like Bob Parsons at GoDaddy is working today too — with a fascinating story about the upcoming Super Bowl ad that GoDaddy’s going to be running.

MarsEdit

marseditIconLarge.pngFor the last several months I’ve been using Ranchero Software’s excellent MarsEdit weblog editor to post both here and to our Payments News weblog.

For working “offline” with TypePad or MovableType weblogs on Mac OS X, MarsEdit is ideal. Conceptually, it makes posting to your weblog almost as simple as sending an email. Provides nice support for images, etc. too.

Version 1.0 of MarsEdit has just been officially released. Ranchero’s Brent Simmons has done a superb job again. Highly recommended!

Why Do We Blog?

Frank Paynter asks why do we blog? He’s captured lots of great answers from over 30 bloggers.

As for me, I write mostly for myself — having tried journals over the years but never having successfully gotten personal journaling integrated into my daily routine.

With my blog, I can quickly post items as I come across them (since I spent most of my waking hours — it seems — in front of a computer anyway) as well as thoughts and observations that strike me and that I don’t want to forget.

Keeping Up

Over the last few months, I’ve become a big fan of Brent Simmons’ NetNewsWire news reader application for Mac OS X. It’s my secret weapon for rapidly scanning what’s happening on news and weblog sites of interest to me.

The beta of NetNewsWire 2.0 that Brent recently posted has been very stable — as is its new “sister” application MarsEdit that I’m using to post this item. Both are highly recommended!

Amazon Real Names

The New York Times comments on Amazon’s new Real Names reviewer policy in an editorial: The Review of Reviews.

In the end, it’s probably easier just to go to the library and browse.

I don’t agree — although I do love browsing in the library too! Actually, I’d like to see a tighter integration of Amazon and our local library — lots of possibilities there that would benefit both, I think.

Why Blog?

Jeff Nolan shares his reasons.

I don’t write this stuff for you, I do it for me. This blog is my personal archive, and the fact that I have chosen to make it public is really secondary and reflects an attitude that I have about not having a strong desire to convince people that I am right in my beliefs or be secretive about them.

New blogger (and VC) Brad Feld also shares his initial thoughts.
