Some day, credit card users will be able to not only program their credit cards like they would a VCR but also issue and manage their own cards.

When I worked for Visa in the mid-80’s, the focus was on expanding acceptance locations globally. It was fun to watch how, once essentially ubiquitous acceptance was in place, control features — such as those available on various business and purchasing card products — allowed spending to be controlled within the parameters of the finance department of an organization.
