New York Times: DoD wants limits on Wi-Fi

John Markoff reports on the Department of Defense’s concerns about Wi-Fi expansion.

The Pentagon wants regulators to delay consideration of opening an additional swath of radio frequencies in the 5-gigahertz band that is eagerly sought by American technology companies and is already in civilian use internationally.

It sounds like the issue revolves primarily around the 5 GHz spectrum used by the new, higher speed, 802.11a radios not the much more widely used 2.4 GHz spectrum used by 802.11b radios.
