A Lazy Sunday in Carmel

Lone Cypress - 17 Mile DriveA grey morning this particular Sunday morning at Spanish Bay led eventually to sunshine in Carmel.

Had breakfast this morning at Breakers Cafe on Hwy 68 in Pacific Grove. A great cafe for locals — everyone saying hello/goodbye.

Pacific Grove holds Sunday concerts in the park beginning at 1 PM. Banners up and down Lighthouse Avenue announce the weekly event.

Across the street from the park, a classic Pacific Grove summer cottage (2 BR/1 BA) was on open house — $499,000. The Pacific Grove Public Library is also right around the corner from the park.

I always skip Ocean Avenue in Carmel — it’s not what I’m looking for. Heading further south on Hwy 1, I then turn right on Rio Road and then take an immediate left just past the Mission. That route leads quickly to two of my favorite Carmel spots: Mission Ranch and Carmel River State Beach.

This morning, as I drove by, Mission Ranch had a very full parking lot — by that time, the fog had lifted and the Sun shone brightly. No places to park — the restaurant looked packed. So, off to the beach!

Carmel River State Beach was its usual spectacular self this morning! Fortunately, a few parking spaces left in the lot allowed me to get out for a bit of river and beach exploring. This particular spot has to be unique in all the world — combining river and ocean in a wonderful way!

Along the way heading back to Spanish Bay from Carmel, the lone Cypress tree stood out along the famous 17 Mile Drive.
