NY Times: 36 hours in Honolulu

Some see Honolulu as a stop on the way to more glamorous destinations. But Hawaii’s capital has a special history and it comes to life on practically every corner. Excellent Asian art collections, theaters that bubble with mainland and local productions, and a cuisine that varies from Pacific Rim to pot roast bespeak the city’s ethnic diversity and its place at the crossroads of the Pacific. And how many other American cities have an actual palace in the middle of town? The exuberant clear skies and plumeria-tinged trade breezes of summer make it a delightful time to visit.
